If your Google search for 'EFI service' was meant to find a fuel injection cleaning service, you are not entirely in the wrong place. This story involves cleaning too, but not injectors. Because every choice before that service call looked free. Skipping the call was free. Self-troubleshooting was free. A workaround would be free until it wasn't.
I have mixed feelings about service agreements. Part of me wants to keep every fixed cost low. Another part remembers this March morning. The compromise I've settled on: pay for coverage that includes remote diagnostics, and use it before the panic starts.
How I fix printer problems now
